1996: The Year in Review

Organization

I am truly surprised at how many sites have actually given careful thought to their own structure and organization this past year. While most sites are simply simple (not too big and not that complex) they, at least, offer straight-forward navigation. Of course, the worst are the huge, lumbering sites with poorly structured organizations, poorly implemented navigation, and little understanding shown about the nature of their own information, let alone how others view it. Mostly the Web suffers from a dearth of interesting information, as opposed to the inability to find it--not that there aren't exceptions of course.

This is a really good sign as it means that as the Web grows, we can probably expect it to get no worse to navigate as it is today, and most likely, it will be a whole lot better as more and more people become converts to information architecture.
