Travel: La Pedrera, Barcelona, Spain 1998

I'm not sure if I could pick a favorite between La Sagrada Familia or this building, La Pedrera. This was Gaudi's last commercial building and was designed to be an apartment house. Now, mostly offices, the details are so soft and subtle that they seem sensuous.

If I could build a building, it would be like this somehow, not necessarily in exact style, but in feeling. Walking around the rooftop while the sun was setting was relaxing and peaceful. There is something about the colors and forms, how the light plays off the vents and towers, and the materials themselves--the mosaic especially--that felt like home to me.

While we were in Barcelona, both Jeff and his girlfriend Jill celebrated their birthdays a few days apart from each other. Here's Jill graciously modeling our gifts to her.

Back to La Sagrada Familia, or back to the beginning (Milano).
