Travel: Washington DC
I guess I need to re-evaluate my criticism of DC after my trip this fall (1996). I did have a great time, but I do attribute a lot of it to the events of the weekend. I went to see the Names quilt and it was not only the first time I had ever seen it displayed, but I was fortunate enough to participate by reading names. It was quite an experience and I'm not sure I can describe it in words. If you ever get the chance to see the quilt, (and it may not ever be completely assembled again) do. I still do think that Washington D.C. is one of the worst cities in the world in terms of people and personality, but there are, nonetheless, some incredible things to see and do. The most moving things involve death and memorial, so that should tell you something about the city. In particular, the Vietnam War Memorial (actually there are two) is incredible.
