Travel: Sydney, Australia
My first trip to Australia was last November (1995) and I fell in love right away. I love to travel but there are few cities I think I could actually live in, and Sydney is one of them. The harbor is beautiful no matter what the weather is and it is home to my favorite (and, undoubtedly, the most beautiful) building in the world: the Sydney Opera House.
This is Hyde Park, a two block long park at the center of Sydney's Business District. In the Spring and Fall, the branches overhead form a cathedral as you walk from one end to another. It can be quite stunning in the right light. The rest of the city was this surprising mix of new architecture and New Orleans-style buildings. At times, it feels just like Bourbon Street, in fact, another of my favorite places. Also, I have a few really good friends who like here in Sydney so I just don't think I could visit too much. On my trip in June of 1996, I got the opportunity to do some bushwalking along the coast South of Sydney. On my last trip in November of 1996 I got to bushwalk around the Blue Mountains as well.
I'm returning really soon--in fact--I may be there as you read this, so I will probably have more photos to add. This is a picture of my friend Steve who used to work with me at vivid but left to work in Sydney for a few years. He had a sweet place in Marrubra with his girlfriend Mary. (panorama below). ![]()
